A Home for the Heart of Timbaúba

Deep in the Amazon, along the Gregório River in Acre, Brazil, lies the Noke Koî village of Timbaúba — a place rooted in tradition, community, and deep care for one another and the forest. At the center of this village is Pai Kamãnawa.

Pai is the sister of Chief Paka Kamãnawa and the quiet matriarch who holds everything together. While Paka travels the world to share and protect Noke Koî culture, Pai stays behind — cooking every meal for the community, harvesting food from the land, organizing and guiding the women, and raising not only her own eight children but also Paka's three as her own. She is currently expecting another child, continuing to give life while sustaining everyone around her.

Pai is also a gifted artist. She creates intricate, handmade beaded jewelry — each piece woven with care, tradition, and generations of Noke Koî knowledge. Through her art, she contributes to supporting her family, weaving culture and livelihood together in every creation.

"From sunrise to nightfall, she is in constant service, ensuring that everyone is nourished, supported, and cared for."

A Home in Danger

Until recently, Pai and her children lived in a traditional wooden home built on stilts. But over time, the structure has deteriorated. The wood is rotting, the walls are full of mold, and the house is no longer safe or livable — it is at risk of collapsing at any moment.

Recently, Pai was able to move temporarily into an empty home belonging to a community member who had been away for many months. But he is now returning — and Pai must leave. She and her children will have nowhere to go.

This is why this community has come together to ask for support. Not as an emergency measure — but as an act of honoring a woman who has given everything, and ensuring she has a safe place to rest, recover, and continue the essential role she plays in sustaining her people.

A safe, Traditional Home

This fundraiser seeks to raise $9,500 to build Pai a new, safe, traditional home at Timbaúba Village — a place where she and her children can rest, sleep, and continue the vital role she plays in her community.

The home will be built using traditional construction methods, with locally sourced materials and the involvement of community members throughout the build. Every decision is guided by what the community itself knows to be right for their land, their climate, and their way of life.

Our intentions go beyond building a house. This is an act of honoring the invisible labor that sustains an entire village — ensuring safety, dignity, and stability for a mother, a leader, and a guardian of her people and the forest.

This campaign is organized by a close circle of friends and allies of the Noke Koî community who have had the privilege of knowing this family through their visits to Costa Rica and years of ongoing connection. Entre Mundos is proud to amplify this effort as part of our commitment to the Timbaúba community.

We know this family personally.
